Simple question, if I want to output an mp3 player through the speakers in my lounge, what is the minimum that I need? Can I just get away with using an amp with a volume control on it and inputting my mp3 player in to the back of it?

I know that it won't sound as good as using a cd player but most of my music is in mp3 format so just want a medium to play it in my lounge.

If that is the case, can anyone recommend something decent around the £150 mark, if you can get anything decent for that amount!

For that budget, you could pick up a decent brand Midi system that will be plenty for you. One of my stereos cost me £120 new (A Panasonic) and it has 150W per channel, and it is excellent; never distorts, loads of bass and very nice sound overall. You will also need a phono to 3.5mm (mini jack) jack for connecting your MP3 player to the stereo.

Mmm, I'm also thinking that I could get something to output my TV to the speakers too, do would I be better off with an AV receiver of sorts or would seperates/stereo do this as well? I see that my TV has a digital audio out which I'm assuming would be the best connection to use?

I don't need 7.1 etc, I just have 2 B&W 602's.

Btw, I should should say that I'm starting from a base knowledge of zero!

I have the speakers, but i'm using an old midi system that sounds awful so am looking to upgrade. Am trying trying to find out what the minimum is if I just want to get seperates/av system and which is best. My tv is new too (got a couple of days ago) so never really though lt on how best to connect it up.

Sorry if it seems I'm not giving all the facts but just moved house so have no internet and having to write this on my iPhone which takes ages!

Cool, cheers.

What would be best way to output my TV to one, phono leads again? I'm assuming most amps have multiple phono inputs to allow a few things to be conneced?

It might have more than one input, but the average amp is used to just connect a CD player to, so more than one isn't normally needed. Just look at the specifications.

Chris.
