Over clocking ram

Like with all things it's not a clear yes/no answer but in certain games the gains can be decent. Same with certain software and tasks especially on Ryzen systems.

What are the rest of your system specs, particularly your CPU and motherboard?

Your motherboard may not support it so will need to know what you have.

Updated the post .. all specs are now included...

It is possible to overclock it to 2667ish but this was last year before I updated my bios so now it's back to stock

Overclocking RAM is one of the worst things to do, in respect to stability and data corruption, but DDR4 should generally be able to run at 2667 without much issue, especially at standard timings. You also have a decent brand, not generic stuff. A 3600 could do with faster than 2400, it'll impact your minimum FPS at higher resolutions and avg/max FPS at lower resolutions.

Fair enough. I do play cyberpunk 2077 @ 1080p, medium settings. would I notice any difference bumping it upto 2666Mhz ?

Just bumped it upto 2666Mhz. Will see if any difference

Follow this guide and I'd suggest doing your testing in Linux on a bootable usb so you don't potentially corrupt your windows installation

I've been tweaking settings just before I go to sleep and letting either HCI Memtest or GSAT run overnight to find errors, then it's a case of trying to guess what is causing the error and tweaking some more until you get no errors and deciding just how much you want to push it vs the time spent

The important part is running benchmarks after you get test passes to check if you're actually gaining any performance though, the issue is the time you need to run the tests and the amount of test you have to run because 1 error is a fail even if that error comes 7 hours into an 8 hour test

OK Thanks. Yes I do have linux on a USB.
Im @ 2866Mhz at the moment. Not seeing any difference in Cyberpunk ( nothing noticeable anyway )

I overclocked my RAM yesterday for the first time as it was running at the JEDEC standard of 1333MHz. I increased it to 1600MHz which I believe should be the manufacturers overclock rating and I set the timings to 9-9-9-24, but I started getting BSOD's which I don't really understand why for this overclock? It's x2 sticks of Crucial and x2 sticks of Corsair. Perhaps it's mixing which is causing the problems.

The timmings may be to tight maybe looser timmings and also i used to lock the pcie to 100 if your also overclocking cpu

Im guessing your ram is ddr3.

Thanks, I did try leaving the timings as auto as well, which resulted in 11-11-11-and something but I still got problems. First it was Onedrive, then kernal errors etc. Seemed too much of a coincidence plus it's all fine now. Aye, it's DDR3.

I hear it's only necessary to increase voltages if it doesn't work well ? I'm at 3000Mhz now and I think i'll keep it there.

Blue screen. Upped it to 1.25, will monitor it
I've seen some Kingston memory that was 2933 @ 1.2v, but for everything else I've seen the spec is 1.35v. What the majority of those modules could do @ 1.2 or 1.25 I'm not sure, but I'd guess almost all would achieve 2666 @ 1.2v or 1.25. If you're only testing with game stability I'd be careful it doesn't lead to data corruption.

Got a crash in cyberpunk yesterday. upped to 1.3v and no problems since.

Maybe one or two better FPS. Game loads quicker than before.
