I have Windows Live Messenger installed and somebody who talks to me insists on having a stupidly small font in a style that I can barely read.

Is there a way of over-riding her font settings (for my machine, not hers) so that I can read it more easily?

Tell her to stop using a stupid font?

I think really the only thing you can do is use an msn client such as miranda.

I have repeatedly, I have looked all the way through e.g. the options menu etc and there is no option there, I remember ages in older versions of msn messenger there used to be an option there, along with one allowing your to not download people's little moving images and all (e.g. type in blue "tit" and you get the word blue, and a woman bouncing her boobies:mad:).

I have tried to increase all font sizes - but then that makes everybody's font look stupidly big. I think it has something to do with the fact that my screen resolution is very high...

If you install the Messenger Plus addon that has a setting that will allow you to over ride there font etc
Just when installing, click on the option that doesnt install that added on advertising crap and your away :)

Where do I look for this option of overriding another person's fonts and stuff? I've just installed it now..

In the MSN Messenger window at the top near File, edit.. etc.. it will say Plus! click that and go to Prefrences.
A window will pop up. There will be 4 tabs along the top. Click on Conversations.
In there you will find what you are looking for

Bingo got it - thanks very much :)

Has Messenger Plus! changed from the bloated, spyware/adware riddled application it was 3-4 years ago, that generated me lots of work by having to remove it from people's machines?

Still has the adware in it... but it does give you the choice of installing it or not at the start. As long as you get it right, you're ok.

I don't think that matters actually, I installed it last night (the only thing I've installed in ages), and suddenly while messenger was running there was a steady ~9kbs upload, then a steady ~9kbs download for a few hours. It did it earlier today as well!
