over_clocked bundles (memory)

Hello :)

Hope you do not mind a noob question.

I was thinking of getting an over_clocked bundle, probably just one of the lower end(i3). The problem I would have is with the memory, it would be insufficient at 4GB (I make very high_count poly models, which are usually for map baking).

I know that there are problems (with over_clocking) when adding more memory to the spare slots, but is it still a major problem if adding 8GB(2x4) to 2 slots?(rather than the 4GB to the 2 slots)

Surely if you are making maps it would be better to go with a Sandybridge i5 or something? Also AFAIK they have a lot less issues with overclocking if you add more memory :)

Yes, quite true. I suppose I am just penny pinching at the moment. I will wait a little longer and put more funds aside, I can then go with a better processor.

Thanks for the reply.

Lemin's right- get OCUK to replace the 2gig sticks with 4gig ones and it'll be fine.

If you're doing highly CPU intensive work, a Sandy Bridge i5 or even i7 would be a better option if you can afford it. Cheaper boards may become available over the next few months.
