i have no idea about overclocking ivybridge so just read a few posts with settings and went and set them and would like advice on how to fine tune things, especially the ram.

current settings are
blk 100
multi 44x
vcore 1.2v
LLC turbo
power saving all off
ram is set to run at 2000mhz although the timings are miles off what overclockers managed.

just adjusted the timings on the ram as per ocuk's results on the shop page and running fine.

what do i need to do to go higher? keep adjusting the multi till it wont boot and then add just vcore or do i need to adjust other voltages?

temps at idle are around 28c and load temps around 58c according to realtemp 3.70

edit: just tried 46x @ 1.23 vcore and crashed before post, got worried as i have no idea what im doing lol so its back to 4.4ghz till i get some advice :D

finally got 4.8ghz but at the cost of 1.45 vcore, temps hit 95c with prime95 but playing bf3 which is all i do they only reach 63c, shame i couldn't get a lower vcore at this speed but very happy with it all the same :D

how do i now change this overclock so that it down clocks when idle?

95 is getting dangerously high. You wont hit those temps while gaming, but be careful if you plan to do video encoding and CPU intensive stuff, you might want to drop down to 4.7ghz to be safe.

yeah i dropped it back to 4.4 for all the same reasons. nice to know i have headroom though for bench runs etc etc :D

any idea how i can make it run with speed step thing to reduce clocks and voltages but keep the overclock?
