This is my general purpose PC., but it can also be used for games such as COD.

Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit
Intel core 2 Quad Q6600
Stock cooler
6GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS

Compared to my new gaming PC this is dog slow. So can I overclock it and would I see any improvements in performance?

Not really - GPU is horrific nowadays with less than a gigabyte of VRAM.

Get a new GPU and overclock and you'll likely see some performance gain, but not a great deal in my opinion.

Yeah, the GPU is the weak point. If you were to grab a newer GPU (AMD 6***/7*** or Nvidia 5**/6**) then OC the CPU (and GPU) then you'd see some improvments..

If you chucked a 290 or 970 in there you'd have a MASSIVE CPU bottleneck..

Really, it needs a FULL upgrade..
