Hi guys

So just bought the following and done my first overclock:

- Xigmatek Elysium case
- GTX 580 MSI Lightning extreme 3gb
- Asrock extreme4 gen 3 mobo
- 8gb Gskill ripjaws
- i5 2500k @3.3ghz
- Corsair H100 with 4 x akasa viper 12cm fans attached - the case has a total of 16 fans! To say it sounds like an Airbus A380 at takeoff is an understatement! Anyway, seems to keep things cool!

So I did my overclock basing it on some settings I saw on here for the Asrock mobo. Everything set to auto with exception of multipier to 46, I upper the vcore voltage to 1.34v, and have enabled speedstep with short burst power at 220w, long duration at 200 and max at 225.

Using an 8 hour prime95 small FFT the overclock was rock solid and the max temps for all 4 cores were between 51 and 55 degrees. So temp wise I feel I should be very happy - agreed?

My questions though are, have I over volted with 1.34v - not tried going lower or do I not need to worry with those temps?

Also I know nothing about the turbo boost power values I put in - 220/200/225 - they are much higher than stock - what do these values do and is there any risk with the values I have used?

Should I have speedstep enabled anyway?

Many thanks for your time.

Nic

I dont use intel turbo boost/speedstep just turn it off

if its stable at 1.34v then take it down to say 1.30v, test again, if its stable reduce it a bit more, when you hit an instability just raise it back to previous setting. Simples.

OK will turn it off and leave vcore max at 225w - take it this just means the processor is working at max speed all the time?

Will try lowering the vcore - how low can you go to get 4.6ghz stable?

I tried 4.7Ghz on the same settings and windows BSODed.....bit surprised at that :(

4.6GHz stable on 1.34 is a really nice o/c for a 2500K.
Keep going down by 0.025V on the vcore and test with prime or general use.
If you dont want any more than 4.6 stick to this.
My 2500K needs 1.41V core for a 4.8GHz so far... :( not exactly happy but its not bad either.
