Hi all,

I've recently bought a new system, for which you can see the specification below. For absolutely no reason, and against all advice I would like to overclock my GPU.

I've used the ASUS SmartDoctor software that it ships with, but I've found it to be a pain in the backside.

Please could somebody kindly direct me on the best way to go about overclocking this Graphics Card?

Regards

Try MSI Afterburner, but both do the same thing, just different GUI.
And that's the best way, cause I don't think you are willing to flash a new firmware with changed frequencies and voltage.

The general rule is: increasing the frequencies require more voltage, which leads to higher temperatures and system instability.

yep, it will be just fine. i also have asus smartdoctor as it came with my asus GTX460, but i use MSI afterburner for my overclocking profiles.

the only reason i havent got rid of smartdoctor is because its very easy to manually put the fans to whatever speed i want (eg, if i want to cool the PC down quickly i will temporarily put it at 100%)

FYI the image in your signature is too big.

You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels. If you want to turn the signature off in the future, you can come back and edit your post. If you have specified a signature in your profile, the box will be automatically ticked for you.

Awesome, I'll check that out now. I've just managed to get my i7 2600K to 4.5Ghz and running Prime95 to see how it goes. I'll get AfterBurner installed and let you know how I get on.

I don't think that is in my signature, it's an image I posted to the blog? I will double check though - thanks for the heads up. :)

I tried it last night but I ended up having the delightful BSOD.

Using the specification above, is anybody to advise what frequencies and voltages would be recommended to overclock my 580?

Cheers
