Does anyone know how to over clock these? Im informed they cant be tweaked very much. I might be able to get my hands on one and am just interested to know what they can sit stable at. :)

They overclock in almost exactly the same way as any other processor, i.e.decrease multiplier, increase FSB, increase multiplier, etc. But then you probably already knew that.

As a perceived rule, the XP3200s never really shone as overclockers as they were pretty close to the edge of the stability envelope for the Barton core, i.e. they'd do 2.4GHz on stock voltage but as that was only 200MHz more than stock speeds, it wasn't much of an achievement when compared to the lower-rated CPUs. That doesn't mean that they're bad overclockers at all, however, rather that they don't have as much headroom as the others... in the same way an FX62 won't have the same range as an X2 3800.

As to what you will get out of said processor, predictions require palms crossed with silver, understanding of the influence of planetary and stellar alignment, quantifiable assessments of magic dust polarity and a rudimentary use of the Force.

In other words: why don't you find out and tell us? ;)

I also had an XP2500+ which was overclocked to XP3200+ speeds . . . that was a massive upgrade from the PIII 550e I was using at the time.

Most of those Bartons hit 2.2-2.4GHz and quite a few of them did that with stock volts (or a very small increase in vCore). I did have one that would hit 2.3GHz on stock volts but only in single channel mode, as soon as I tried it with 2 stick of memory it would fail over in prime?

Leave the xp3200 alone and get a mobile xp2500 instead. They clock a lot better and at lower voltages too and cost a lot less. Multy unlocked too.

That is a very low temp for the xp-2500, watercooling isn't it?

I have one currently running at 2200. I had it at 220 x 11 when it was my main pc but reached about 56C priming so I never tried more than 1.7v

No water cooling just a big typhoon, an armor and a few cfm through the case.

Dont get too stressed about high temps. As long as its stable it will take it. I have an xpm laptop that runs at 90c sometimes. Same chip as i am using so i know they can take a good beating.

When overclocked though they tend to get unstable at much lower temps.

What cooler are you using?

Just out of interest, have you seen what those barton 3200's fetch on an auction site?

They go for twice what the mobiles go for. Plus lots and lots are fakes..most being mobiles that have been changed to show as xp3200. Better than a xp3200 really!!!

i recently flogged one (xp3000 barton) on auction....... made me very happy :)

mine o/c'd to 2.5 but needed about 1.75 vcore. i had a gigabyte g-power pro an armour and mucho fannage like the poster above.

i see, well to be honest, i have my 3200 running normally and then i ran 3dmark06 on the computer and it would have crashed every 10-15 secs into it, but then i increased the voltage 1 notch to 1.70 i think from 1.65 and this stabelised it. what type of voltage would it need if i was to keep it running at 2400?

If you can get more than a few FSB extra out of a Barton 3200 I'd be really surprised. They're not great clockers at all.

Why? He's already got the 3200, and most 2500-Ms will only overclock to 2.4 or 2.6 if you're lucky on air, which is only slightly faster than what the 3200 will get to.
Unless of course he can source a reliable high-clocking XP-M and finance it by auctioning off his current chip, turning a small profit in the process as well... ;)
