regarding this system:

Argon Extreme Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz @ 4.20GHz USB3 Overclocked Bundle - Asus

1. Will this handle playing 1080p content via the onboard hdmi output ?

2. as its hdmi will it output the audio too ?

The onboard graphics will be able to handle 720p at the very least but I can't find a definate answer as to whether it can play 1080p, and yes HDMI will carry audio as well as video.

I have an i5-430m CPU in my laptop and its IGP can handle 1080p no problem. Dunno if that helps though cos I think the IGP in i3s isn't as powerful.

if in the event that it didn't handle 1080, and I added a geforce 8800GTX to assist in the decoding, would I still be able to output on the onboard hdmi or would I have to use the 8800 dvi output.

I would prefer to be able to use the hdmi to carry the sound too.

You would then use the port on the card. If you post a query in the correct subsection someone at OCUK may be able to answer your question very quick for definate.
