I think I have a problem with my newly built system. When I boot up after a hard shutdown my PC does either one of two things. 1) The CPU returns to its default clock, or, 2) I get a black screen at bios. But, as soon as I turn it off/on (or soft reset) it returns to the normal overclocked setting of 4.0 GHz and appears to work as normal. This happens 50% of the time.
Also a stupid question: - Is it also normal for the CPU to be at its default stock when idle and throttle up to the 4.0 GHz overclock when doing intensive tasks? I guess this improves the life of the CPU but just want to make sure.
System specs:-
OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz @ 4.00GHz Max / Asus P6TD Deluxe Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel DDR3 Bundle

IDE HDD 7200 rpm
