Overclock CPU ok BUT cant run memory at full speed

Hi all,

I have just overclocked my E8500 to 4GHz (9.5 multiplier and 424 FSB) @ Vcore of 1.7 volts

Basically all runs ok got temperatures on both cores of 36 degrees when idle. Got them upto 50 when using prime.

Anyway the only problem i have, at the moment the DRAM frequency in my BIOS is set to auto.

I have increased the speed to 1066MHZ (or whatever the max i can run) and my system just isnt stable, prime reports errors within a few seconds. (It runs ok on the minimum speed setting)

I am using Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-8500C7 1066MHz memory 7-7-7-20

Can anyone help me in trying to increase the speed of my memory?

im sure you will need further information so please ask.

I had input the memory timings manually i.e. 7-7-7-20 and set the frequency to highest value not exceeding the limit of 1066MHz

And so i thought all was ok, but i had problems with instability so i had the choice of increasing the vcore voltage or reducing the memory speed.

Rather than increase the voltage i thought id sort the memory and this cured the problem, so im happy that it isnt my CPU although i could be wrong.

As for the vcore voltage, yeah thats a typo, it should be 1.275
 
Ok i have my NB at 1.4v RAM at 2.0v (according to corsairs website) and i have manually entered my RAM timings 7-7-7-20

I also thought i had set the DRAM frequency to 1066 but CPUID is suggesting 424MHz which strangely enough is my FSB setting - maybe that is correct.


Oh and the ratio is 1:1


Anyway i am currently running prime so far so good. Although it has only been going for 10 mins lol
 
Ok now have the DRAM frequency at 1060MHz

According to CPU ID (on the memory tab) this gives a DRAM frequency of 530MHz at a ratio of 4:5

According to prime i get a hardware failure.

BUT with intel burn test i have passed the standard stress test with max temps of 64 degrees

am now running a high test and getting the same temps.

Just need to run a maximum test
 
Ok i have increased the southbridge to 1.20 (1.15 wasnt an option in my BIOS) as suggested and upped the vcore half a volt.

just run the maximum test completed with no errors in 926.97 seconds

getting temps of upto 69 degrees but hanging mostly around 68 degrees.

Am pretty pleased with that!!!!!!!!!!!!! considering it is my first attempt :)
