overclock e2180 on abit 650

hi again, just an update

have tried lots of things now to try and get an overclock out of my cpu with this board.

am i missing something here?? if you feel sorry for me please reply

last thing i tried was to start RAM with 2.2v and cpu with 1.4v so i felt confident that lack of voltages was not to blame for my monitor not powering on (common mistake???)

anyways i am unable to increase the fsb from 800 (starting point) without the annoying monitor black screen.

Its just a terrible board for overclocking, a real nightmare, sorry to say it but it is probably the worse 650i board out.

I've had 2 of these and it was pants for overclocking my E6600 which i finally managed to get to 3.15GHz which A LOT of tweaking, needed lots of Vcore, northbridge voltage upped a few notches, had to run the memory unlinked, those sorta things.

Upgraded to an Abit IP35 Pro and managed to get 3.4GHz rock stable.

shame to hear that the mobo is abit poo, i was optimistic however after getting a 2.7ghz clock (naff) on my q6600

i know its probably a big ask, but what vcore did u set? and nb? i have tried 1.5v! and still nothing heh

the pc i am typing this message on has a ip35-E and it was loads easier to clock (3.2ghz with 5300 4gb RAM - possibly abit hot tho)




i will stick at the 650, maybe i will learn something :D
 
Hi,

Are you running linked or unlinked?

If it's linked, what do you have the multiplier set at? Make sure it's not on AUTO. 1:1 is actually 1:2 and runs the RAM stupidly fast, you want the last one on the list (whose name I can't remember, but it's the 1:1 setting anyway.

Also - make sure you disable all the speedstep/C1E stuff, and just run the RAM on AUTO until you get the CPU stable.

The Abit lacks the 1.793V setting on the Northbridge, and that really holds back big overclocks, but you're not looking for 400FSB+ with a 2180, so it should be OK.
 
the multiplier is set as x 10
the options for linked RAM are:

1:1
5:4
3:2
sync

i have played around with all of these settings but still iv failed to get anything :)



have disabled all of the speedstep etc
ram i will leave on auto

whatram mulitplier setting wiould you recomend?
and voltages for ram, cpu etc?
