Hey you lot.

I've bought my board/cpu/ram pre-overclocked off MM about a year ago from a very reliable individual, so i havent adjusted any of the settings, although i did add 2 more sticks of identical ram about 3 months ago.

The specs are:

E2140
Asus P5K
4x1gb Geil Value 800mhz PC6400 (5-5-5-15)
8800GT

Cooled with a Freezer Pro 7.

Everything has been running fine with the following settings for the past year almost. they are thus:

FSB: 375mhz
Ram timings: 5-5-5-15
CPU voltage: 1.4v
Ram Voltage: 2.0v
Clocked at 3.01ghz

Temps seemed fine. High 60's but nothing dangerous. 8800GT got a bit toasty but they all do.

It's been stable as an anvil, no crashes, nothing. Then this morning i restarted after a stupid AVG update and it posts, but wont load windows (blacks out before the load bar), then after a reboot i get the Overclock Failed! message that Asus like to give us.

What could possibly have happened to cause this? Nothing has changed in the last year, aside two more sticks of identical ram 3 months ago. It refuses to boot with the overclocked settings, but returning to default boots fine. Given that, i assume no damage has been caused else i wouldn't be able to boot at all, right?

So ruling out that something has blown up, i dont really understand where to go with this?

Any help is appreciated.

Try running memtest on each of your 4 sticks of ram.
It is possible that 1 of them is falling over cause your overclock to fail.
You could also try turning the OC down slightly it may just be the cpu can no longer hold your current OC.

Good shout guys. I reset the the Overclock to stock, then booted. then i set the overclock to 370mhz fsb (2.97ghz) and booted, finally reset the FSB to 375 and i'm back at 3.01ghz.

Very odd. thanks guys!
