Hi all, I'm looking for some help to over clock my system, i'm new to over clocking so not really sure about the ins and out of it all.

Basically im going to build a new system sometime this year (Possibly i7 2600k sandybridge) and feel i may aswell overclock it and get a bit more out of it until i build a new system

Any help would be much appreciated

I'll try to list as much info as i can about my system

Intel Core2 Duo Processor E8400 (6M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Stock intel cpu cooler
Asus P5QL/EPU Intel P43 (Socket 775) DDR2 PCI-Express Mobo, Bios 0406
Asus ATI radeon HD4890
Kingston hyperX ps2-8500 4gb 1066 Memory
Seagate 7200 1tb HDD
Seagate 7200 80gb HDD
Corsair VX 550w psu
Coolermaster elite 331 Case

Don't really want to buy any new stuff for it unless i can carry that onto the new system when i'm ready.. Hope you guys can help me out a little and again your time and effort will be much appreciated :)

Hey, thanks for the quick reply

Yes i believe the chip is good for 4ghz but im not to sure on the mobo. I may look into getting a Corsair h80 cooler or similar at least then i could use it on the new system.

I shall read those guides :)

Thanks, Steven

Yeah i thought this mobo would limit it after doing abit of reading.. just wondering what frequency i should set my ram to, because when i change the fsb frequency the ram goes up

What ram is it. Try set it lower than stock then if you get any errors you know its not the ram. When you get your max clock then mess with the ram

Well Ive got it running stable at 3.4 but after a overnight stress test with ORTHOS it reached up to 70c max and 41c min...so i wont be going any higher until i get a cooler of some kind..

How easy is it to reuse the likes of a corsair h80 from this system to the new one when i build it?
