overclock i5 2500 on stock fan

How much could I overclock safely with stock fan? Just thinking bout doing it at mo and never tried it before.

Should be ok up to 4GHz on stock volts, just keep and eye on the temps.
Try to keep it under 75C on stress testing with IBT.

What motherboard do you have?

Unless you have a suitable one you won't even be able to overclock using the ability to increase the turbo multiplier 4 notches (bins).

Is it the 2500 or the 2500K? The stock fan is fine up to 4ghz but if you have the non K version you can only do a limited overclock, as shown in Davefran's post.

Also, you need a P67 or Z68 motherboard to otherclock, otherwise you're pretty much stuck on stock speeds.

You can buy a better fan and cooler for your CPU cheaply enough and this will give you more headroom with your temps.

Ok here we go not the i5 i put up tho, got it wrong.
Motherboard is gigabyte p55 ud2
cpu - i5 760 2.8ghz lynnfield with stock fan

I had 4.2ghz on my stock cooler and asrock extreme 4 gen 3 board.. IBT took temps to mid to high seventies...
