Hi guys,

I was hoping I could get some help with my first ever overclock to give my i5 2500K a bit more life.

Some people have mentioned to me that a stable overclock is around 4.5 GHz I think it was. Anyway my motherboard is an MSI P67A-GD65 which I believe has a built in ability to do it. My CPU heatsink is a Coolermaster Hyper 212. The system is about two years old now.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

4.5GHz is fairly common so its a realistic point to aim for.

You need to head in to the BIOS and look at the settings which control the multiplier and the vcore, you may need to bump this up throughout the process. I think leaving most options on Auto may be the easiest option barring disabling the turbo option.

What are temperatures like at stock speeds? do you have good ventilation in the case?

Thanks for the responses.

Just to confirm this isn't technically overclocking though right?

My concern is the frequency will not stay at that rate the whole time due to how turbo boost works.
