Hi. My memory is currently running at 1333MHz and i would like to speed it up to 1600Mhz. The BIOS settings support this speed but when i try to set it the system fails to boot.

8GHz g-skill ripjaw PC3 16000C9 2000Mhz at 1333MHz
Asus M4A79T (790fx) deluxe MB.
Windows ultimate 64 sp1
EAHD 4870x2
AMD 3 PhenomII X4 9950 black @ 3.5 GHz.

Thanx in advance for any replies.

Is there a Jumper on your motherboard which you must move to overclock to that frequency? There is an OC Jumper on many other motherboards i've came across.

I'd help more, but just Googled your motherboard and couldn't find it.

Sorry confused MB designation with an old motherboard it's actually an ASUS M4A79T deluxe motherboard. No jumper settings should be necessary as it's all controllable through the bios.

Thanx for taking the time to help.

Yep, Just Googled your motherboard, no OC Jumpers, included in BIOS like you said. I guess it's just becoming unstable for some reason.
Is there any manual voltage control or is it automatic? Are you Overclocking in small increments or going for the big 1600MHz straight away?

My motherboard also supports 1600MHz FSB (OC) and also fails to boot if I hit this target by the way, it seems fine at 1500MHz though.
Try something smaller, and maybe OC in increments of 10MHz until it fails to boot, then set it to the setting before that.

Asus themselves say it's readily achievable but they don't give you the accompanying CPUNB; CPUNBFID; HT Link settings. The memory only works in the 1.6 - 1.65 V range and since this is adequate for a whopping 2GHz refresh rate, 1600Mhz should work just fine on auto voltage.

I really appreciate the help emphacy. Do you think I need to manually alter the thread number and latency timings? As i say the mb comes with an O.C bios setting at 1600Mhz that must need additional settings.

I have just set the CPUNB setting to 2.4 GHZ ( 1/2 x [1600 x 3 ]) and got further into the boot process before encountering the inevitable BSOD.

Hi Emphacy if you're there. I have managed to set the memory to 1600Mhz. I thought about what you said and decided to set the dram voltage manually to 1.64V and it worked! So thanx very much for the help.

To recap:

Set memory to 1600 MHz
Set CPUNB to 2.4 GHz
Set DRAM Voltage to 1.64 V

everything else being equal it should work.

Thanx once again for the help.
