Hey, well this isn't the first time i've made this thread but I never really got anything concrete last time.

Basicaly, my cpu used to run at 3.4ghz and now putting it above 3ghz can cause it to not even post.

I thought even when I first got my motherboard that it was a bit dodgy so I think it may have just finaly bit the dust but its also doing some other dodgy things. Like i've never been able to get my ram timings to run on 4-4-4-12. Litraly, I set them but the pc doesn't run them. Usualy it bumps the 12 up to 15 or higher I think and used to cause instability when it would randomly keep changing them so I left them on auto. I'm unsure if this is causing my overclocks to become instable.

Anyway, i've tryed using voltages up to 1.45v (in bios not actual) and thats never helped the stability. I've got ram voltage running at 2.15v and they are speced for 2.1v that hasn't helped stability. I've bumped up the mch by 0.2v but hasn't helped.

Whats left to do that I might be missing? It appears that anything over about 333FBS is just a dead zone now but it never used to be.

Any ideas? I'd really like to get it back up to 3.4ghz if possible. I've noticed some games like mafia 2 demo arn't liking it at 3ghz.

:EDIT;

Could a mod move this to the overclocking forum please.

MCH=NBv right? in which case the only voltage I can think of offhand to try is FSB Terminal.

What speed's your RAM running at? (check with CPU-Z).

Hey Big Wayne :) (im bigger then you btw ;)).

Well currently I am running at 792MHz with timings 4-4-4-18 2T.

MCH is indeed the north bridge voltage if my memory serves me correctly. What would you recommend I up the FSB voltage by?

:EDIT

Just realised I put this in the wrong forum. Should be in overclocking.

I also just took a peak into my bios to find some scary things.

First off my MCH was at 1.36 (default 1.25) I think I'd tryed upping it that much in a fit of rage because nothing was working and forgot to turn it back down. That may have lead to some instability?

Secondly, I have my ram set at 4-4-4-12 even though it's booting in windows with 4-4-4-18.

I had my cpu voltage at 1.38 and i've brought it down to 1.34 and put my FBS up to 410 and have managed to actually boot with at 3.3GHZ so there is still light at the end of the tunnel. I must try stress testing and working out why the hell my ram timings are off!

O, I just edited my post btw. Its 800mhz, aparently they were good overclockers when I bought them. The silver OCZ ram. I hear the gold DDR3 stuff is terrible?

You may have to up the north bridge volts to 1.4 or even 1.5v+ if you are using 4 sticks, i would give it a go testing it with higher NB volts personally.

O my, I think my bios might be shot. I just changed loads of settings and I definitly saved and quit and none of them have changed when I booted. I just said I booted with an FBS of 410 running 3.3ghz. CPUZ says im running 330FBS and the voltage never changed either.

I can't flash the bios either because ABIT went bust and i've never been able to find any stuff online to download.

Yeah I don't mind resting the bios.

1.4 MCH you reckon? I thought 1.36MCH was high. I just took it down to 1.27.

Reset the BIOS back to stock . . . leave te MCH on [Auto] its fine . . . the board is designed to run with four sticks fine up to about 400MHz FSB . . .

I just reset the ccmos so lets see if this is fixable huh. I'd like to aim for 3.4ghz. I'm using the laptop so post away and i'll change things. There is no auto setting for the MCH. I have to set all voltages to auto detect for that and then I cant ovreclock.

What cooling do you have on the CPU?

Can you upload screenies?

Would be good if you can arrange all the above apps in a screenie, load up Pirme95 Small FTTs and leave for 5 mins then take a screen grab, in CPU-z need to view the [CPU] tab and the [Memory] tab alongside HWMonitor and MemSet!

What you want me to leave it all on auto? I'm not sure if my ram will run at 1.8v. By default the MCH will be at 1.25v as well. I know my pc runs stable at least at 3ghz as thts what i've had it on for the last 2 years now. If i bump the ram up to 2.1v I have to take everything off auto.

I have what was at the time some of the better air cooling. The tuinq 120 tower or how ever it's spelt. Tempreatures have never been a problem before.

if the ram need 2.1vDimm manually setting to run at DDR2-800 then fair enough dial that in but you should need to take "everything" off auto to just change the vDimm?

I need to see a stock screenie to set a baseline for volts/temps! :)

How my bios works is at the top it has user defined or auto. I cant change anthing without putting it on user defined. That then just leaves it all on the stock settings of the board. But they arn't automaticaly changed. They might be pre-set for a q6600 though I dunno.

Anyway i've changed the ram to 2.1v and i'll take some screenies.

Need to see a screenie as detailed in post #12 above . . .

Then I suggest going straight for 3GHz (9x333) with the memory [6:5] DDR2-800 . . . then I need to see another screenie to check how the board is handling the vCore and temps etc . . . if push comes to shove the vCore may alone need adjusting to get 3GHz but [auto] should be fine . . . on a few Q6600 I've tested in the past most seem happy at 3GHz with around 1.300-1.35vCore . . .

Also if Prime is stable at 3.0GHz if you could play mafia 2 or any other of your games to see how it "feels" . . .

Gotta go for dinner at my mates now . . . steak and kidney pie in the house!

I'll check back in an hour or two! :p

open up another CPU-z please showing the [CPU] tab . . . you can open multiple copies just by clicking the .exe or shortcut again . . . may as well chuck the [SPD] tab in as well!

50°C full load under prime at 3.0GHz?

lob coretemp in as well please . . .wanna see the chips [VID]

The first link has the CPU tab, the second is memory. And I think the cpu fan is turned down as i've never had a problem with temperature.

Thats also stock settings not 3ghz. 2.4ghz as I reset the ccmos. I'll do a lil overclock and take pictures of the 3 tabs again and turn up the fan.
