Hi everyone, this question im sure has been asked 100's of times but I cant seem to find an overclock that works.

What Im looking is to take my 8400 to 4ghz below is my setup and ive serched over OCUK and google and cant seem to find a setup that works for me, Im a noob to the overclocking end of things so sorry if I sound a little silly.

Asus P5Q-E
Intel e8400
4x1GB Crucial Balistix 8500
Gigabyte 8800GT

I hope someone can help or list settings or something. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know this also, I've managed to get 3.6ghz so far with 9 multi and 400 fsb. Any and all help much welcomed :p

There's plenty of threads around about this, but what i've found to be the biggest factor is the ram. Very hard to get upto 4ghz with any ram that won't go over 850mhz.

Try these:

AI Overclock tuner: MANUAL
CPU Ratio Setting: 9
FSB Frequency: 450
FSB Strap to North Bridge: AUTO
PCI-E Frequency: 101
DRAM Frequency: 1080
DRAM Timing Control: Manual (5-5-5-15)

DRAM Static Read Control: DISABLED
DRAM Read Training: DISABLED
MEM. OC Charger: ENABLED
AI Clock Twister: Lighter
AI Transaction Booster: MANUAL
Performance Level 8
ALL PULL-INS DISABLED

CPU Voltage: 1.4
CPU GTL 0/2: Auto
CPU GTL 1/3: Auto
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.52
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.22
DRAM Voltage: 2.1
NB Voltage: 1.24
NB GTL Reference: AUTO
SB Voltage: AUTO
PCIE SATA Voltage: AUTO

Load Line Calibration: ENABLED
CPU Spread Spectrum: DISABLED
PCIE Spread Spectrum: DISABLED
CPU Clock Skew : AUTO
NB Clock Skew : AUTO
CPU Margin Enhancement: OPTIMIZED

C1E Suppport: DISABLED
Max CPUID Value Limit: DISABLED
Intel Virtualization Tech: DISABLED
CPU TM Function: ENABLED
Execute Disable Bit: ENABLED
Intel Speedsteb: DISABLED
Intel C-state: DISABLED

Sorry to revive this thread but I've been searching and googling, my spec is identical to this one however I'm using 4x1gb stick of corsair pc-6400 at 4-4-4-12. I can get 3.6ghz, well who can't? but I'd like to get 4ghz, the settings above aren't working for me probably because my ram is different, could anyone shed any light? I would appreciate it a lot.

Thanks

The above settings would have the OPs Ballistics running at 540MHz which is fine as they're rated to run at 566MHz, your kit can only do 400MHz at stock and an overclock of 140MHz is a tall order even if you slacken the timings & up the vDimm. If possible, you need to choose a memory divider/ratio that will allow you to clock your CPU higher whilst leaving your memory running at or around 400 MHz.

Which of the above settings should I change and what should I set them to, sorry to be a pain but I'm a total novice :(

FSB Strap to North Bridge: AUTO
DRAM Frequency: 1080

Basically look through the strap settings and see which one can give you the lowest DRAM frequency. At 450fsb the lowest will be 900mhz on the 400mhz strap. Or atleast that's what I get.

Im now runnign dominator 8500 ram and still cant get the machine to run at 4ghz stable, it will run at 3.9 which i guess is close enough, but everyone seems to be hitting 4 no problem.

Hi all,

my system is not able to boot on when i put Performance Level above 10. So this is minimal value when system boots.

My RAM is Corsair "XMS2" TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX G (PC6400, 800MHz, CL5)

system does not start, i put bus freq. 450 mhz, dram 1081 MHz, performance level 8. system starts only when performance level is 10 or higher.

Try putting FSB strap to 333...also your ram is 800MHz CL5, it may not be capable of 1081MHz.....

how much vdimm are you giving?
