Ok so im running at stock speeds at the 2.4, yet i see many people going up to 3.0 easily. I would like to join that gang lol

can someone tell me what i need to change in the bios etc to gain this speed increase please.

Thanks :)

Tried that but computer wouldnt boot up, did a few auto restarts then went back to default mode at 2.4.

i thought i had to change some volts somewhere ?

Setting the RAM to run at 666MHz will give you a 1:1 ratio.

If you still get trouble booting at 3GHz then maybe your CPU needs to have the voltage increased slightly.. try one step at a time.

Also, is your memory voltage correctly set?

i have not touched the memory voltage settings yet! this is why im here lol, any help will be great :)

i shall wait on settings then and ill try do it.

what sort of room temp is it running in ?

take the case side off and see if the temps drop.

could possible run some stability testing to make sure its happy at 3ghz.

its very warm day today. Room is hot :(

ive taken side off case of see what happens, i take it the temps are to high,

i got a cool master case aswell

ok running 1hour test then :)

This is what I used on my current Q6600 which was my first ever overclock and it made it very easy. Just need to take the time to read through it.

At the moment you need to check what voltage the auto setting is putting your cpu on (using cpuz) then start from about there in BIOS. Boot up with that voltage, test stability for a bit with prime95 (10 mins is ok for preliminary stability test) then if it is stable go back and reduce the VCore. Rinse and repeat until it gets unstable then go back to a stable setting and test it properly (10 hours prime95 or something)

Edit: Also I think your sig breaks the rules, might wanna change that. It's 4 lines of text maximum iirc.

the 965 chipset also needs more north bridge volts when overclocking past 3.0 and with 4 gbs of ram might need more at a lower overclock, the Geil should work well with a bit of luck 3.2/3.4 should be possible with your rig :)

This is my template for 3.0 gig with a q6600 and a gigabyte board. Your ram may need different settings than mine on this template.

If that board is okay for 400fsb try putting it to that. Raising the multi to x7. That will give you 2.8ghz. You may need to raise the cpu volts. If you leave all ram settings as default this will give you a fsb ratio of 1:1. As been said you may possibly need to raise north bridge volts slightly.
If it runs at 2.8ghz okay after prime95 (I personaly like to have atleast 8hours stable, both on the small FFT and large inplace FFT) and temps arent too high (use coretemp to keep an eye on temps) then you can raise the multi 1 higher, then do the whole process again.
Is it a G0 quad? What CPU cooler are you using?
