Hello all,

First time overclocker here and I've read the guides, just need to clarify a few things.

My Ram:
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.6V

My Processor:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair)

With Cooler:
Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler

Motherboard:
ASUS P5KC AiLifestyle Series iP35 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

What clock should I look at achieving? I know I want to hit 3ghz+ on the Q6600. What mhz x mulitplyer should I set to, and should I up the voltage?

Hope I don't BURN the house down.

This is the link to all my CPU-Z screenshots (RAM, CACHE, GPU etc)

Want to to it tonight :)

Thanks

Thats my best on a P5K board, that was on water right enough.

On air 3.6 with a good cooler and enough bottle to push volts.

1.450v I used when i used my TRUE air cooler for 3.6 (9x400)

Think my temps under load were kinda high, 73c under full load after about an hour, it could have been lower it was a while ago

As it's my first OC, just wana take it to 3.2 I think.

But what should I do before upping the MHz/Multiplier in BIOS?

Change RAM Mhz? Anything?

I'll be doing it as soon as you let me know! Thanks

few things.

Disable speedstep
Disable C1E

Your ram just leave on auto unless you want to mess about for max overclocking

Leave you cpu voltage as it is and overclocking 10FSB at a time, test with prime95 to make sure its stable, use coretemp to make sure of your temps.

Now untill your overclock is at 3 GHz I would only test for 10 min at a time 3 GHz should be easy with stock volts

If you find its not stable bump up the volts at a minimum increment and test again until stable.

EDIT sorry I seen your looking for 3.2, you could get lucky on stock volts but most likely need a 0.1v up maybe more.

Hello Snooble :)

I want to hit 3ghz+

Want to to it tonight :)

helpppppppppppp please :)

As it's my first OC

Firstly slow down, secondly its considered bad form to post "duplicate" threads discussing exactly the same thing . . . your needs are not so important that you are entitled to have multiple threads! ;)

Just change your FSB to 333MHz, that will get you 3.0GHz and knock your memory up to DDR3-1333 . . . very easy!

Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600
  • 9 x 266 = 2394
  • 9 x 333 = 2997

Hey Big.Wayne, your the man I was sent to see!

Is my memory capable of 1333? And should I:

Disable speedstep
Disable C1E

Thank you,

S

OK, just threw me off when CPU-Z says 667MHz (am I right to think that's per side, so double it and it's 1333?):

So can someone clarify I should go into BIOS;

Disable Speedstep
Disable C1E
Set CPU Clockspeed to 333.
Check if system's stable.

???

Thanks, sorry to be so bothered, just don't want to fry it :/

My G0 needs 1.4v to keep it at 3.1ghz stable it runs 72oC on a couple of the cores on full load.

I had it boot into windows at 3.2 but one of the cores failed prime almost instantly, it has held 8 hours in prime solid at this voltage and this speed.
IP35 chipset btw. :)

I read on a few guides I should watch out, as clocking up the CPU Mhz also clocks up the PCI-E's and RAM.

Need to worry?

So, finally doing it now..

Just set clocks at 356Mhz x 9. To get 3.21Ghz.

Left EVERYTHING else on Auto, disabled speedstep and c1e.

Will Auto take care of the voltage for me? Time to run some tests!..

I got errors within Prime95 after about 20 seconds.. Says:

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4"

What do?

My Q6600 B3 runs at 3.2, with 1.3125V, idles at 20-25. Maximum temp in Prime 95 is 64C after 3 hours then stays like that until I disable the workers.

I've read G0's go up to 3.6 with the right cooling, but as a rule of thumb, 3.2 - 3.6 is what you should be aiming for.

Redshadows advice is about as good as it gets. Do what he says and you wont go far wrong.

compare wath u get at 3.6 and 3.00 vs volts vs heat so i think 3.0 its a good number for the q6600..i have Antec 900 case and coolit domino water cooler and i get 25,25,26,34 idle temps @3.00 and 51 my highest core at full load...and @3.6 i get 39 my lowest core on idle and 68 my highest core load...
