I just got an i7 Extreme performance rig from OC today :) It should be overclocked to 3.6ghz but I just wondered how I went about confirming this? I'm not saying I don't trust OC lol, but I just want to be sure. When I check in Vista's system info page, it reports the processor at the default speed of 2.6 (well it actually says 2.7).

Thx guys.

Just make sure you look at the clock speed in the lower left set of boxes, rather than the description.

"Intel Core i7 xxx 2.66gHz" is the name of the chip, which won't change.
At the bottom will be "Clock speed" Something like 3600.00 mHz

I just installed cpu-z. Does this look right to you guys? Sorry, I am new to overclocking and this is my first pc upgrade since about 2002!

yep that is fine.
where it says "specification" that is just the name/description of the chip and where it says "Core" that is the core speed of the chip at that moment. so yours is clocked at 3.6GHz :)

Awesome! Thx for the help guys. Is it normal for that clock speed to drop? I have noticed that it says 3600mhz and then tends to drop to about 2100. It will then go back to 3600 when I open cpu-z again. Is this just because the cpu is idling?

Thanks RJC, just looked at the thread you linked. Everything is looking sweet then. Now I just need to get some games installed!
