Overclock ram without overclocking CPU?

I have a H97 Pro Gamer, I thought it had limited OC options enabled recently, but it doesn't - no way to overclock the CPU.

How can I get my 2400mhz ram to run faster than 1600mhz? If I set XMP it runs at 1600mhz, bios by default sets it as 1333mhz.

I know I can change the blck: dram ratio, but I'm not keen on doing that as I don't want to make the system unstable, the lowest ratio option the bios gives me would set it at 103mhz.

Are there any other options? The board says it supports 2400mhz by OC but I'm at a loss how to do this.

The ram speed is no longer tied to the fsb.

You should just be able to set the ram to the speed you want with no issues

EDIT what cpu? Some only support 1600mhz I think

4770k. Yeah, it's 1600mhz. So I think the only way to get the ram higher is to OC? But the board can't do it. So I guess I'm screwed. I thought I read somewhere that Asus had enabled OC'ing on many non Z97 boards.

That cpu and board should both do more than 1600MHz, something isn't right.

Have you tried updating the bios?
