hello just a question ive over clocked my i5 4670k to 4.0ghz

recently got hold of another 8gb of ram but every one ive spoken too have said having 4 sticks will limit my overclocking is this true ?

wanting to try push my i5 to around 4.5ghz if possible

im new to all the overclocking side if someone is able to point me into the right direction with guidance id appreciate it :)

Thank you :)

It's not a problem. I hit the same clocks with 4 sticks as I did with 2 sticks. I can even hit 4.8Ghz with 4 sticks. It doesn't really matter as much these days unlike back in the socket 775 days when running 4 sticks could cause problems.

In the old days (3-4 years +) Upgrading ram would mean in 99% of cases that you had to slightly reduce your CPU overclock.

Now days (Pretty much since we moved from Core2/Quad to i5s/7s) that isn't so much the case. While results will vary depending on your hardware configuration the most I have heard someone had to reduce by was 0.1Ghz or 100mhz.

Mine clocked to 4.5Ghz @ 1.265v with four sticks of 1600MHz which themselves have been pushed up to 2200MHz. You should be fine to go ahead and give things a try. The only thing I've had to be concerned with is the CPU core temperatures so in this warmer weather I've reduced the overclock to 4.2GHz @1.215v. The ram is staying where it is though.

My 4820K's IMC does struggle a bit with 4x4GB at higher speeds doesn't really impact the CPU overclock as such but does make it harder to clock the RAM.

Should be fine as already mentioned. The only thing you may need is a slight bump in SA voltage if you've set it manually. :)

Thank guys that's brill I'm gunna give it a try.
Silly question can I just disable the XMP profile install the ram then just enable it or will I need to just start it from scratch .
