Hello,

This is a first post for me here and I have what some of you might think is a noob question, But I really want to upgrade my Q6600 machine to Krypton Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz @ 4.00GHz USB3/SATA 6Gb/s Overclocked Bundle - Gigabyte, purly for gaming.

My only problem is that I believe that you recieve the bits to build yourself this is something that I do not have the knowledge to do, so do Overclockers have an option to build the bit's for you on the motherboard then all you have to do is stick it in your machine add the plug and play devices and off you go? I don't have any trouble with stuff like RAM/Graphics cards but I've never done a processor before and I would be scared incase I ruin it and waste £500+ of my money.

Thank you for reading I look foward to youre replies.

Processor is really simple, it only fits in one way due to the safeties they put in. Also heatsink is really just a simple matter of rice sized dollop of paste, slot the backplate on, press down top half over CPU, apply a lot of pressure, and screw together.

Bobs your uncle!

Please read the FAQ. Competitors are not to be mentioned for obvious reasons, other than that welcome to OcUK.

Installing the CPU is very easy...you just put the CPU in and secure it with the locking mechanism (instruction should be detailed in your motherboard manual).

Installing the CPU cooler on the other hand...it can be anything from very straight forward to a pain in a butt to mount, depending on the design of the specific cooler. Most CPU cooler installation is pretty straight forward and you should have no problem if you follow the provide manual/instruction for mounting properly; and if the instruction for the coolers is poorly pictured, you would most likely be able to find a video instruction for mounting that particular cooler on youtube or something.

Just make sure you have the right amount of thermal paste applied before mounting the cooler onto the chip.

On a separate note...I'd get a 2500K/2600K Sandybridge bundle over the i7 950 bundle.

have you even read the description on the product?

Designed by experts the "Krypton Intel Core i7 950 Bundle" is a pre-configured high performance "plug and play" bundle featuring hand-picked components and highly optimised settings. The Guaranteed 4.00GHz overclock has the processing muscle to power through the most intensive applications, including the latest games and video editing programs at a price point that will lift your system performance to a new level.

Why You Should Buy This Bundle?
- A solid, optimised 4.00GHz overclock profile provides outstanding processing performance
- Prebuilt, overclocked and configured. Just "plug and play"
- 6GB of Triple Channel DDR3 memory delivers unlimited bandwidth
- X58 Chipset provides SLI and Crossfire ready support for any GPU configuration
- USB 3.0 compatible offering lightning fast transfer speeds

Bundle Specification
- CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz @ 4.00GHz
- Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel
- Cooler: Akasa Nero S CPU Cooler
- Artic Cooling MX-3 Thermal Compound

Service Package
- Full 12 Month collect and return warranty
- Each specification is assembled from handpicked components for compatibility and stability
- Telephone, web note and forum technical support

Note - Please note that adding in additional memory to the spare slots will require new BIOS settings and the maximum clock speed attainable may be significantly reduced. OcUK recommend a quality brand PSU for use with all our bundles such as the Corsair TX & HX range. Updating the BIOS on the overclocked bundle range will void the warranty on the overclock. If you update the BIOS we will no longer be able to provide support for configuring and maintaining the CPU overclock.

*Please allow between 24 and 48 hours for your system to be built and configured. This may take longer during busier periods.

But surely for Overclockers to do the overclocking on the processer don't they need to build the system up anyway? why can't they just leave it built up???

Sorry for my poor know how...

Yes I saw that but a lot of ppl from the reviews are saying that they had to build it??

I'm not sure if we're allowed to mention other E-retailers but "********" are doing the same kinda bundle check their website
Granted it's not overclocked but it does come pre-made for you to just slot into your machine and that's ideal for me.

i would remove the competitors name from this fourm! and there a really poor competitor at that!

Overclocked bundles come pre-assembled with CPU in the motherboard and Bios overclocked and saved. All that is required is the fixation if the cooler and the rest of the components into the system.

The bundle arrive with the CPU and RAM installed. The cooler is sealed within it's retail box and you have to install it yourself.

The cooler isn't installed for shipping reasons.

So yea, sorry but even tho it does say it'll be build and ready for pulg and play, but then with other customers saying they had to build it I just wanted to make sure before I spend my money.

So the cooler is not to hard to fix.. I may just have to buy it and give it ago... what could go wrong really.. "Famous last words"

Plug and play in this sense means, you plug the parts together, and play - without having to configure BIOS settings or anything.

+1 As you can see in this review OCUK send the overclocked bundles with the RAM and CPU installed. The cooler is packaged separately - but this makes sense, you really don't want a 800g cooler attached directly to your expensive motherboard and CPU while it is being sent across the country.

Attaching the cooler is rather simple - and it comes with full instructions.

Also, if you are mainly gaming then I would suggest going for this bundle instead - it is a bit cheaper and CPU is considerably more powerful.

Isn't the I5 a duel core precessor while the I7 is quad core?? I thought the I7 would be better because of the 2 extra core's? what the I7 good for?

Sorry for all the questions.
