Hi guys,

I've inherited a 4 year old Gigabyte board and a E7500 and I appear to have a bit of an issue with the CPU running at 100% nearly all of the time in Windows! - this info from CPU-Z.

The chip has been overclocked to (11x318) 3.5GHz, stock it runs at 2.93GHz. And it runs flawlessly, the only thing to note is that when running idle in Windows the processor appears to still run at 3.5GHz. Sometimes the speed will reduce but more often than not it sticks to its top speed even when there is literally nothing happening :(

Tomorrow I intend to clear/reset the bios (check for any updates?) and configure everything from scratch but I was just wondering if there was anything obvious that I could try in the meantime?

Thanks.

Have you checked wether EIST and speedstep have been disabled in the BIOS?

Have you checked any of the settings in windows that would keep performance at full speed?

Usually when I used to overclock core 2 duos and quads I always switched EIST and speedstep off as I found there would be instability issues. With newer CPUs like sandybridges and Ivy bridges this isn't the case.
