Overclocked Dualcore or standard Quad???

Quick question all,

My old E6600 was overclocked to 3.2GHz (approx) with a 3Dmark score of 14789.
I have had problems OC my Q6600 (see my other threads on the subject) & as such have decided to keep it standard, 3dmark score of 13448.

My question is, which is better?
From a 3Dmark06 score it sounds obvious as the Dualcore is higher but I was wondering if the lower scored Quad, was infact still better because... well coz its a Quad as opposed to a dual core.

I say better in terms of gaming, not spreadsheets, word etc.

Can someone explain please.

I have just upgraded my E6600 for a Wolfdale E8500. I still think overclocked Core 2 Duos are great for gaming.
Sell both and get a Wolfdale!

why not overclock a quad core?

HE HAS PROBLEMS OVERCLOCKING IT!

What sort of problems are you having mate? I'm sure someone on here will try to help you.

In answer to your question it depends on how multithreaded an application is or not as to whether you will see an improvement from the Quad. Most applications will run better with the faster clocked dual.

Cheers linkto insanity.... saved me the trouble :)
Can't believe someone put overclocked Quad too..... please people, read OP before commenting.

Its a long story & even longer thread in 'Overclocking' section but basically it turns out my 680i SLI mobo is notoriously bad at oc'ing Kentsfield (ie Q6600)& Yorkfield won't work on it either.
There are stability issues with getting the right amount of volts etc.

Thanks for detail too, will leave Quad in I suppose, its running Crysis in DX10 at max so I can't complain really

Cheers for help
