Ive just pulled out my pc from under my bed and decided to get it up and running before i upgrade, I have overclocked my processor and when i have cpu-z open the core speed seems to fluctuate between stock and the overclock, wheras before it stayed at the overclocked speed. I have disabled the intel speedstep feature in the bios as i thought it could be to do with that but also my pc doesnt like starting up all the time so do I have a duff cpu/Motherboard?? any help much appreciated, thanks.

this be due to the EIST (speed step) which basically means the cpu downclocks itself by dropping the multiplier value whilst its idle or not under a lot of stress to save power, dont worry.

As soon as you load up an intensive program it will jump back to the correct clock :)

- edit now i have actually read it properly ....DUH!

have you got c1e in the BIOS settings too? might be also causing the problems

they are cracking little chips, mines gone all the way to 3.3ghz with a £5 freezer 7 i got from a mate, and a very slightly voltage bump

im not sure what it could be, have taken pics of my bios settings, i probably need some advice about overclocking this properly, i had it set up awesome a while back but it seems to have given up playing ball. Had to increase the voltage to the cpu as the pc doesnt seem to boot without it, just hangs at a black screen before the bios and will either restart a few times or take a few minutes before the system beeps and then shows the asus logo or beeps lots indicating an error then i have to restart and try again. Please help lol

*edit* ive taken that c1e support and it upped my bus speed to 320mhz, seems to show me the correct speed now, and also in system propertys rather than it showing e2160 @ 1.80ghz 1.80ghz it npw shows it at 2.88ghz, so fingers crossed i can start overclocking properly now as i remember having it over 3ghz before my power supply blew because of a dodgy graphics card. any advice much appreciated tho as i do need it lol

Could well be voltage related mate. What u got it for your highest overclock?. I did have to raise mine to get over 3ghz

followed the instructions there and the mhz is stable now, but still not booting properly, once windows has loaded its fine but it seems to be a lot of effort to get it to post?? i think thats the correct word

is the OC stable under load? If not, that could be causing boot issues. Also check temps, they might be up a bit with C1E disabled.

Could also be PSU on its way out, they don't last forever.
