Overclocked E2180, Temps Query

Hey all,

Hoping somebody can give me some advice. I have a E2180 C2D CPU running at 290(FSB) * 10. The Vcore voltage is current set to 1.425 and appears to be all running stable. It is housed in a Antec 900 gaming case with a arctic cooling 7 HSF. when idling it sits at 40c, running Orthos to test the overclock the CPU rises to between 57c and 63c, I didnt expect it to fluctuate that much. Is that OK? running Orthos between 60mins and 2hrs at a time and all seems OK. Just wanted to check im not pushing it too much. I only really had to start upping the Vcore when i went past 270*10.

I have lowered the volts now down to 1.40 as i tried running Orthos at 290*10 and it crashed again. before i started OC'ing my IDLE temp was 22c and chassis temp was 15c. As for heatsink compound i cant honestly remember applying any. going to bencmark it again at 270*10 and see what i get.

Thanks for the feedback peeps. Im not happy with the temps i have at the moment. it seems people are getting quite different results.

My friend has a identical spec machine to mine. Asus P5KC Motherboard, 8800GT, E2180 CPU, simalar cases(not the same but same fan config) two front 120mm fans, one rear(two blowing one sucking oo er) and a top mounted 200mm fan blowing across the mobo, graphics card etc. My system board temp is 27c and stays at that and my CPU can vary from 38c upto 48c earlier just by browsing the web etc. nothing too stressful. I even compared the fan on the CPU RPM to my friends and mine was running earlier over 2000rpm while his was just over a thousandrpm, change some hardware monitor settings within the BIOS and seems to have bought the RPM down still a good 12-15 degrees hotter then my friends. He is currently running at 300*10 and i am on 270*10. Im going to take a look at the HSF and get some artic cooling heatsink compound and maybe reapply.

BTW scuse my ignorance what is TIM?

Going to order some AC5 and take a look at the HSF as it would appear its only the CPU that is running hot. just turned PC on from cold and its idling between 35c and 38c so a bit lower since i tweaked the qfan settings in the BIOS yesterday. Will keep you posted.
 
Hey all,

Well got some arctic silver paste and was all set to reapply and reseat my HSF(Arctic Cooling 5) Saw a problem straight away. HSF was not seated correctly. Would appear one of the lugs was not pushed thro the mobo correctly. Trying to secure this properly was causing a problem. you have a black post in the centre with two white clips either side except the one that was causing a problem. the HSF wouldnt have fallen off as it was secured with the 3 other lugs but obviously could have caused some of the heaing issues i have been monitoring. anyway my question is this, Will this HSF below do the job. it looks beefy enough and will put me in good stead for when i upgrade my cpu later on.
