Hey guys. Im looking at upgrading my rig but am on a very tight buget. Im currently running Intel G41 mobo with and E5400 cpu which is overclocked to a stable 3.11GHz. Im looking at Intel Core i3 2100 on Intel H61 Chipset Motherboard which is 3.10Ghz iirc. My current rig is alnmost 3 years old so it stands to reason the i3 set up will be much better but im not as clued up as you knowlegable folk so I would greatly value your advice. Its main useage is casual desktop useage, internet surfin, watching vids etc but I do a fair bit of gaming on it. I play mainly COD and BFBC2 but with the new COD and Battlefield 3 out in the next 2 months id like a rig much more suited to handle it. Any advice/opinions will be greatly appreciated guys. :D

Ok that's not exactly your cpu ive compared but close enough and gives you an idea of the difference in performance.

I would wait myself. Bulldozer is expected this year october is a strong rumour, im not saying dont buy the i3 but prices could well drop and seeing as you are on tight budget waiting a month or so may get you better bang for buck

That's a rather helpfull site. Thanks for your help. I keep hearing about this Bulldozer, something out of my price range I imagine. Thanks for the advice. :)

That link is used a lot on this forum they also do a GPU '11 benchmark for GPUs ;)

We don't know what the prices are of these new AMD bulldozer CPUs or their performance for that matter. It's almost certain though it will affect prices and hopefully knock a few quid of Intels sandybridge gear.

If the bulldozer CPUs look promising when released you could consider an AM3+ mobo and a Phenom 955 if it works out much cheaper than the i3 2100 build. The AM3+ mobo will take the bulldozer cpus as well as the older generation CPUs.
