So after my laping last week i decided to o/c today.

Heres 3.6ghz at idle....

And here under orthos load - i left it for 6.5 hours after this and temps rose to 49C...

Look ok? :)
I had some problems though. I started at 3.2ghz which was fine even at stock voltage but when i tried 3.4 ghz it wasnt playin ball. I kept upping the vcore until 1.52v but no joy. Then i read on another forum about holes in the fsb using a 680i mb and it was suggested i try going straight for 3.6 - it worked...
Runs fine, no crashes, 6.5 hours orthos stable, memory @ 900mhz linked/synked (sp, its late lol) 4-4-4-12 voltage @ 2.1.

Anyone with evga 680i mb know how i can see which bios version i have as the p31 bios is supposed to have fixed these so called holes in the fsb - mainly for quads but for duos too.

Anyway, im a happy bunny. My 2.66ghz c2d runs nicely at 3.6ghz....next up overclocking the gtx :p

System:
Evga 680i A1 mb
E6750 proc
OCZ platinum rev2 800mhz ram (2x1gig)
Thermalright UE cooler with 2x yate loons on it.
Antec 900 with the side fan in place.
OC 8800GTX gc with hr-03 cooler.
74g Raptor and 2nd 320gig hd

nice one , my e6600 needs a lot of voltage as well (1.55) in bios for a clockspeed of 3.6ghz, as long as you keep your load temps below 65'c youll be ok

nice clock.i am having trouble getting past 3.2 as well anything over and it just dont post.it boots up at 3.6 with 1.6v but its not stable at all.and i dont like putting that much vcore through it.will have to give them new chips a bash i think, just hope its not my mobo thats letting me down.

Thats some very nice temps you have there! What were your temps like after 6.5hrs? There is only a screen shot of a 30second load. Much difference?

I've got an E6750 O/C'd to 3.6Ghz too, on an Asus P5K-E board. My temps are higher though. 28-30 idle, 58°C load. Using a Thermalright Ultra 120 (non extreme and non lapped) with 1xNoctua NF-P12 fan. Volts are set to 1.375 in BIOS. But i can knock 3°C off when i turn my case fans to high but don't bother cuz its too noisey!

Is the vcore still set to 1.52v? Like you said, you upped the vcore after it wouldn't go any further, but then found out about the FSB hole...

Try overclocking further!! If you've got 1.52v at those temps, then keep going. If you're happy at 3.6Ghz, then start dropping the vcore down and the temps will get better still :)

Not working out so well now :(
Answer to 1st question - temps were 49C after 6 hours of orthos - low i know but ambient is quite low in here prob 19C.
Vcore at 3.6 was actualy 1.44v in bios for the orthos testing - all was fine.
So i went to play Eve online but it locks/reboots within 30 seconds every time :( :(
I tried reducing to 3.5ghz etc but same thing kept happening. I unlinked the memory and ran it at 800mhz and loosened the timings to 5-5-5-15 but still no joy. Had to put it to 3.2 before it would play ball and it was still a little glitchy in EVE.
Gutted now :/
Not sure what to try next... increasing voltage never seems to help.. Im going to try 3.4-3.6 with volts up to 1.55 although im sure i tried that yesterday with no joy. MCP was at 1.55 (northbridge right?) ive put it to back to 1.5 now.
Thought it was all to easy ... I will try voltages like the 1.375 mentioned above too as it seems to hate the higher voltages, it just fails quicker! What the hells going on?

I just flashed bios to ver p31 and it lets me have 3.4ghz now.. at about 1.38v. 45C after 1/2 hour of orthos. Tried eve and its working so far. more messing *** see if i can get 3.6 stable in games.
