Im only overclocking to 3.8ghz at the moment, from what ive read the power and heat spikes to not a great ratio to performance increase.
Im trying to get as close to my memory mhz with the multiplier at 20 and blck set at 190, im only able to choose 1524mzh (next multiplier is too high for my mem (currently 1800)

Im getting an idle system of around 42 degrees, on a max intel burn test temps do rise to around 74, but a couple of cores stay around 69,to me seems as though i have bodged the thermal paste and probably needs reapplying! Maybe then all cores would stick around 69?

Using Antec 902
Noctua CPU cooler
6gb of Reaper 1800mhz mem
Intel i7 920 D0
Asus P6T v2 Board

Running on CPU voltage, 1.225
DRAM 1.62
QPI/DRAM 1.225

Does this ok to peeps or any thing im doing wrong?

...

those temps seem fine mate... if i had those temps i crank cpu up to 4ghz

[edit] cpu voltage seems a bit low for 3.8 clock is it stable in prime no error on any threads in large FFT's

[edit2] how did you apply your thermal paste

Ran prime95 on various for 30 mins and seems ok, going to give it an overnight stint

Having temps that varied on a quadcore is acceptable. Its mostly due to the physical position of the cores. If in doubt you could always go through the HSF and TIM to make sure you have both even spread and contact (as someone mentioned earlier). You could also check that the base of the HSF is flat and if not lap it.

RE: voltage @ 3.8ghz. The voltage required for D0's is less predicatable than C0's as it is able to draw more current and use a lower voltage.

with the d0 you should be getting at least 4 to 4.2ghz easily, its the c0 like mine that is harder to go past 3.8 without water cooling and depending on the luck of your cpu;)

Ok ive pushed upto 4ghz and all seems safeunder high pressure in prime for nearly an hour.
Again an overnight test and some itel burn probably needed.
Im not fussed about getting to 4.2ghz as yet
Are temps of 74-79degrees acceptable on these kind of tests?
I had to raise CPU to 1.232 to get a stable platform on the 4ghz

Looking at games they dont get anywhere close to these temps mind and speed step is turned on to enure its not in perm torture!

Sorry to hijack the thread ;)

I've got a Gigabyte EX58-Extreme, i720 + 12GB of Patriot DD3-12800 low latency RAM that will get installed when I can kick my wife off of the PC for a few hours.

(Damn The Sims 3!)

So, while she is torturing artificial people I found this NehalemCalc (http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78307) and was fiddling around with settings.

Does this seem reasonable? (I want to overclock, but not interested in 4.0GHz because too much heat / voltage etc)
