Overclocked temps

Hi all,

I recently purchased a pre-overclocked i7 rig (3.8 920 D0, EX58-UD5, Noctua NH-U12P) from the site and was a bit concerned at the temperature the CPU runs at when. I must stress - this post is by no means questioning any of the overclocking techniques or methods used by the OCUK team, I am merely querying whether this is either something I haven't done correctly, or whether this is normal!

While video encoding (HT on, all 8 threads used), I get these temps:

I should point out, Core Temp / Windows (7 x64) / SpeedFan all seem to incorrectly report my CPU speed. The bios states 3.8 fyi.

The system is 100% stable, it takes over 4 hours to encode some of this stuff so it stays at these temps all the way through with no issues.

A couple of things to note, firstly the side of the case is off for the time being. The thermal paste was applied as per the instructions on the Arctic Silver website - in the past I've just applied a thin layer as per usual but this time I decided to go with what AS recommend.

I hope this is enough info, please let me know if I've missed anything out.

Thanks!

Far to hot fella, i would check to see the thin layer of plastic on the bottom of the cooler is off (no offence but its not unknown) clean off all the TIM from cooler and chip and go back to spreading a thin layer it could just be a bad mount it happens. Remeber you are trying to fill microscopic holes with TIM your are not adding a layer between cpu and cooler i think a lot people forget that. Try and see what happens mate GL :)
