Hi
I have the -
*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte EX58-UD5

Well had to take it into overclockers the day after i received it as would not run ...they found the graphics card was faulty ...but as i had to reset the bios the setting were removed for the 4ghz overclock .
Well they put the settings back in but as there was no operating system on it they did not do a stress test .
Well i have just done a stress test and had a few errors .

[Sat May 30 14:50:04 2009]
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.4921875, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected

[Sat May 30 14:55:24 2009]
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.48828125, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected

First error was for cpu #0 , second for cpu #1 and the third was for cpu #6

I rang overclockers but they said best to bring it in to them(dont really want to go back there again..long drive ) but is there anything i can try first ? changing settings in bios etc ?
im have never done any overclocking before so very new to this .
Also i keep getting errors in windows vista 64bit which overclockers say prob to do with the overclock settings .

If best to take back than mess about then looks like i will have too :(

Any help most appreciated
karl

Personally all though its a ballache I would take it back as ( you may want to have a look into this ie ask ocuk ) messing with the settings may invalidate any warranty you may have with the oc side of things. Speak to them and ask if its ok for you to try and sort first would be my advice :)

hi karlos103

i was not aware that you had been in - i hadn't been informed there was a problem with a bundle - i do apologise

if you post your email address in a new thread in the customer support forums

i will send you a copy of the bios settings and tell you everything you need to do

No need to apologise , i only found out there was an issue with the overclocking this afternoon so you were not to know ....
When i came in to have it looked at the first time they were going to do a stress test and asked me what operating system i was putting on ...i said vista 64bit and XP dual booting ...he asked what version of vista which i did not know ....he went off then came back with the system so guess they did not do the stress test ..lol
I have sent email address ...but will probably pop up monday after work and leave it with you , i finish at 3pm so should be there for 4ish

Many Thanks again for getting back to me :)

Each test stresses things in a different way (and describes what it's testing when you select it). It shouldn't fail on any of the tests.

when doing prime test ...should it be left on "blend" ? thats what mine was on when got the errors .
cheers

blend does ram and cpu so it is a good test, though for the cpu people usually do small FFT's as (i think) it is most intensive.

None of the tests should give you errors.. i personally gave up on overclocking because every system i have had it gets a rounding error like that, or memory test errors.

well this morning i switched it on and it booted up straight away ...which was unusual as when you normally switch it on from the mains then the power button , it will start...then stop ...then restart and run fine .
Well i have just looked and the overclock settings have gone ...so back to standard clock speed. I have not pressed the cmos clear button or anything .
Seems weird how it has clear the bois to standard when have not done anything . it did crash twice in xp last night and would not boot first time ...seemed to start then stop twice in a row .
well doing a stress test now to see how it goes on standard

stress test is fine now ..
i have notice there is a new bios update out for this board , would it be worth putting it on before i take it in morrow for overclockers to look at it ?
im running f6 bios ....f7 is out now
cheers

certainly sounds like its the overclocking settings....

but what sort of cpu temps are you getting ?

and also have you ran memtest too check your ram is ok ?

i took it in today to overclockers and he set it all up , said all the timings were out ....said he did a prime test for 10 mins with no problems .
i have just run it again from cold , runs for 5 mins ....cpu 1 , 4 and 6 fail ....but no blue screen of death this time .
when i did the stress test yesterday it was at standard clock speed ...2.66ghz ...all fine , ran it for 45 mins
now overclocked again does not last 5 mins

Hmm testing for 10 minutes doesn't show anything. You'd be suprised that a system can be unstable up to around even 6 hours, once my Prime failed at 5 hours 30. I find that testing for 8 hours is a minimum that should be done, but I guess then you would have been waiting there all day :D

Nevertheless if they set the overclock and it didn't last, take it back. With the next one, make sure you test it for at least 8 hours, do it overnight :)

well i have told him (via email )that they will have to arrange to have it collected as im fed up with going up there , twice been already and still no good , 100 odd mile round trip every time ...not prepared to do it again !!

I think its only fair tbh u can in a sense say its faulty and not working at its rated speeds, Ocuk got no choice to collect and sort it out and replace it or fix it free surely....

Really I dont know how this could have happen to you considering each kit is surely tested and running overnight on prime too make sure the kits sound before being sold by ocuk ?

This has certainly put me off buying my kit tbh the last thing i would hate is an unstable kit after spending all that $
