I'm passing Overclockers so I'm going to be buying my new system in cash. Anyone been before?

Do you think it's worth checking out any of the equipment before leaving. I'm getting an entire new rig here inc. a new 22" monitor. I really don't want to drive home to find out I've got a dead pixel in the middle of the screen.

What would you do/recommend?

Cheers,

Tummers

Hey Tummers,

Yeah i buy my stuff from the store quite often, bit of a trek for me as well.

You cant really check out any of your kit when you buy it lol. That would have to wait till you get home. I would suggest getting it mail order to be honest if your worried about any pixels and such being stuck, that way you have the 7 days long distance act, as long as the goods are boxed up and as new condition still you can return stuff.

Also depending on the time of the day you hit the shop, you could be in for a very long wait. I have been in before and waited a good 45+ mins as there was a long queue.

All good though never had any problems to be honest. Also as said above you could mail order, but ask city link to keep it at the depot if their useless in your area like they are in mine, the go and collect it yourself when you want to. Its what i do most of the time.

Edited for the DSA, cheers guys lol :D

Anyone got some pics? Curious what it looks like. Don't expect it to be anything special, cause it's primarily mail order. Yet I'm curious nevertheless!

I'd support the earlier views that you're in a stronger position nowadays buying from reputable suppliers online based on the DSA.
Having had problems with my expensive NEC monitor @14months I can also sing NEC's praises for their superb 3yr warranty offering - delivery of new monitor within days of phone call, and pickup a few days after! No time without a monitor - how's that for service.

I go to the store all the time, just a counter with a couple of guys behind it.

You cant really check your stuff while youre there but the best tip i can give you is take a few carrier bags ort boxes to put your stuff in as they dont have bags to give you.

And the 7 day DSA thing dosent apply if you buy in store :)

The shop is in a very small industrial estate - it's a big subdivided warehouse really, and OcUK have a couple of the sub-divisions. There is a small showroom/counter area that's usually full of people (the queues are crazy) and a glass division where you can see the telesales operation in the back.

You can't inspect anything in the shop - they won't let you debox anything or look at anything so you may as well buy mail order and utilise the DSR although a dead pixel generally won't count as rejectable unless you are buying a screen guaranteed to have no pixels stuck or off. At least one etailer will test a screen for you and guarantee no dead/stuck pixels for £25+VAT, so maybe that's an option for you.
