You can't take these things personally. A lot of people feel that being turned down for credit is a slight on their trustworthiness. It's simply a business decision by the company offering credit. If you don't fit their target market, you won't get credit and indeed you can get turned down for credit even though a credit agency might report you as having a better rating than someone who gets accepted.

Think you are right - but it is still annoying though. I will take it on the chin as they say. Lol :(

Its a bit of a game to get highscore, doesnt literally mean anything as its still random. Just wait till you try for a mortage then they are wanting letters from 6 years ago and all sorts of hoops you got to jump through

Having a good credit rating isn't always a good thing. Hitatchi make money with the hope of you not paying off within the time period.

Those with good rating show a high probability that it WILL be paid off before the 0% ends therefore making no money.

I had not applied for credit for years and I decided to check my credit rating few months ago. It was Poor. Bit of a surprise. So I paid a small fee to have a look at it and it turned out that 8 years ago I had recorded against my report a bad debt from British Gas because it said I had not paid a £24 bill and therefore defaulted.

The £24 was not actually mine it was the previous occupants of our house who had left without paying the gas bill fully and as we didnt have a forwarding address for them I remember at the time (2006) as it was a small amount I finally decided to pay it off to save the hassle. Well it appeared that British Gas did receive the payment but never updated their records properly so it went as an unpaid bill for 3 years as they claim they chased it but the response was "account holder had gone away" this was because I originally returned the bills to them with the person had moved, then they wrote it off as a bad debt and it got recorded against my credit record.

So it had been there for 8 years. I wrote to two of the credit report companies to object to this being on my credit report and 3 weeks later it got took off (it would have been removed automatically in 2015 anyway by law) and my credit rating shot up to good!

So its worth checking your credit rating but I am a bit off topic I suppose.

My only reservation to using this sort of scheme is by paying at the last minute, you are slightly offput by the idea of giving top dollar for old kit. Even if you have had the use of it for 6/12 months.

I would always look to use cash or a very short term (< 1 month) credit if absolutely necessary. I don't have any finance agreements having paid off mortgage and car but my credit rating is very good.
