Hi guys,
Can anyone please tell me why I am unable to overclock my XFX 6600GT's (DDR3, 256MB) past 528/998.
I mean they default to something like 500/950 so I havent gained that much. I am using Forceware 84.21 with coolbits and have 2 x 6600GT in SLi config in a A8N32 SLi Deluxe mobo. Is it becasue they are in SLi config or has that got nothing to do with it.
I have 2 x 1GB sticks of Crucial PC3200 (DDR400) clocked @ 220MHz (3-3-3-8), Athlon 64 3700+ oc'd @ 2.4GHz. Using a 600w EZ Cool PSU (very cheap).
Am I flogging a dead horse and should I just bite the bullet and buy a 7900GT.
Cheers guys

Mine was about the same, didn't overclock much at all despite low temps.

The voltage regulators blew up on it and i have a nasty feeling it may have been due to overclocking it and using an ac silencer with no airflow over them. Not a very robust card.

That psu is a little worrying, i would get a proper one if i were you before it fries something.

Ye I remember when reading the Custom PC of this card back in the day and it wasn't very overclockable. I'd be happy with having the one 6600GT right now, since mine has gone kapoot :(

Cheers Guys,
Joe42 what PSU would you recommend, as I do believe it is my PSU stopping me from overclocking both my CPU, memory and GPU's efficiently.
I am also looking to upgrade to a 7900GTX at some point in the future and eventually buy some decent memory or the other way round.

If noise is a concern, Seasonic. If not, Tagan, Enermax, Antec or FSP.

Assuming your not planning on getting 7900gtx sli in the future a 500w psu should be about right. If you do plan on adding a second 7900gtx a 600w psu would be better.
