hi there my friend posted this on another forum and i thought i would ask you guys.

just been overclocking my 3800x2 and have managed to get it up from 2ghz stock to 2.4 and have idle temps at 40-42 degrees with load 50-52 was just wondering if any of you guys know if this is normal? Hot? or Cool?

Cheers :)

Same CPU here @ same OC, 34C idle atm, and 46C under full load, perhaps goes to 47-48C during hottest days. The ones you statd are well within the ok band, just giving you a comparison :)

AMD are now rating their dual core CPUs anywhere between 49C and 70C+ I see. There's a tool somewhere that tells you the specific rating for your processor. I'll see if I can find it.

I'm not sure what the long term consequences are of going beyond this, or whether AMD are conservative (they are when it comes to max power).

Mine sits at 54-56 degrees 24/7 (2.8GHz- Si120) and I'm perfectly happy to leave it at that indefinitely.

Hmmm, that prog reckons my max temp is 59C, that a good indication as to why i cant get my chip above 2.4Ghz? although my temps are always well below that anyway.
