Overclocking 4200x2 with DFI, help!

I'm in the process of attempting to overclock my A64 4200x2. However, my Dfi motherboard has far too many memory settings!

I was hoping someone could point out to me which settings I should drop back to slacken the timings off so I can get my CPU overclocked. At the moment, there's about 9 different settings and it's confusing to say the least. Slackening all to their bottom settings causes my machine to just sit on a blank screen and beep at me. :(

My motherboard is a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D, help! :)

After doing some research i've found that the following are the big 5:

tCL
tRCD
tRP
tRAS
CPC

But, I set these low (3,4,4,8, 2T) and Windows bluescreens with a FSB of 220. Having it set to 215x11 is ok though... Not sure what's going on or what's up with my memory timings. Can anyone shed any light?

Maybe my CPU just isn't capable of anything higher than 215?

Try a 10x Multiplier @ 260FSB at stock vcore with 166 on the divider and set the HT Multiplier to 3. If you get any problems keep upping the vcore till you get stable. I'd say 1.5v max till you are more confident. Especially if your on the stock cooler. If so then please opt for an Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro for a cheap and cheerful air solution. It's not the best but does me fine to FX62 speeds ;). Oh and if you are on the stock cooler then you might want to change the speed down to around 2.5Ghz so just change the 260FSB to 250FSB and keep the rest of the settings above.

What RAM are you using?.

CPC - 1T/2T

TCL - 1st Timing (Latency) 2/2.5/3

TRCD - 2nd Timing(sorry couldn't remember the different timings in this one)

TRP - 3rd Timing - 2/3/4/5

TRAS - 4th Timing - 5/6/7/8/9/10

Awesome, thanks guys.

I have a freezer Pro 64 I think (been a while since I built my machine :P ). I have Geil Value Ram (2x1GB).

Right, i'm off to try your suggestions, wish me luck ;)

I ended up having a break from overlocking but yesterday decided to actually sit down and read up properly on everything (several times). Most things are very clear for me now, it all suddenly makes sense with HTT etc.

Anyways, so far I have the following:

235x11 (2585Mhz)
HT Link 940 (or 1880) which is at 4x (235 * 4)

I have a Manchester Core and so far no problems getting to that speed at all. Not sure if I can be bothered to really go for the roof as my graphics card is the real bottleneck.

My Ram is at 3/4/4/8@1T

I have a BFG 7800GT with a Zalman cooler on, I'm getting crashes in 3dMark06 although my temps are very low. Where's the access to the Graphics card juice? I need to up my voltage I believe, what should my max be?

Cheers, slowly getting there. :p

Well, I played around some more - got locked out of Vista. Now I have access again and have been tweaking.

CPU now at 2640 Mhz, couldn't resist upping it a little.

My GFX card (BFG 7800GT) is currently up to 478 on the core and 1202 on the memory. I have those stick on heatsinks on the ram chips so hoping the temps are ok, certainly seem to be..

The real problem i'm having is benchmark comparing. My 3dMark06 score is 4388 whereas others are getting around 6000 with the same hardware. Looking at the performance, it's the graphics side that's letting me down. I think my clocks are quite good on my gfx and different drivers don't help (latest betas I have tried as well).

I'm stumped, anyone have any ideas?

Hey Mint_Sauce, gratz on your overclocking, I have the same processor as you and got to 227*11 and HT 5, CPU at 1.4V on stock cooler, now that mouthfull is outta the way, when you were at 235*11 what was your CPU voltage? ive tried other settings but couldnt get higher, I can only think of more CPU voltage to get higher.
