Overclocking 4870 1gb

Hi there, i have OC the above card using the automatic tool in catalyst it was clocked at 780 core speed and 995 memory speed. However in some games i am still gettin odd shapes as if the gfx card isn't working properly, i reduced the clocks and they did seem to reduce. Is there anything i can do to clock the card better? increasing volts etc? as the temps are still managable <50'c. Im using the 8.10 beta drivers at the moment. Any suggestion would be great, as i have never really oc'd gfx cards before.

Don't use the auto tool, try a third party application. I think ATI Tool is still around though there may be something better.

what like rivatuner? why? and how would i test to make sure the card isnt being clocked to much?

After using Rivatuner to clock, use ATITool's artifact scanner, it's always useful, then following that try it in real world use.
