Hi all,

Great news on the OC front, managed with the aid of this link

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/747/747606p1.html

To get my E6600 from 2.4GHz to 3.2Ghz nice & stable….. unfortunately there was no help with how to OC my memory which is:

2x2GB Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500+Airflow Fan

I tried a similar route last night to how I overclocked my E6600 processor i.e. 40 MHz increments & I had totally system failure after pumping it up only a few times.

Basically from standard in BIOS MEM (DDR), MHz – 1066
I tried the following:
40 MHz to 1106 – result, all ok
40 MHz to 1146 – result, all ok
40 MHz to 1186 I had complete failure......... I couldn't even get the BIOS back up. Only a blank screen with some SYSTEM32 type error came up. I tried & tried to get it to work until 1am & eventually went to bed in a panic.
Set alarm earlier than normal, got up and as my PC had obviously had time to cool, I managed to get into the BIOS & quickly reverted back to 1066..... All seems fine now.

Firstly was my method for increasing the RAM correct?
If not, what is correct method?

Timings are 5-5-5-15
I had system volts for memory set on automatic – it jumped between 1.85v > 2.1v
SLI memory setting disabled
Any more info just ask.

Any help to OC my memory would be greatly appreciated... or even if its possible.
Cheers Heffers

Firstly i would have tried jumping in smaller steps than 40mhz
Perhaps also trying fixing the voltage at 2.1v and slack the timinings a bit with the increased mhz speed :)

Hi mod1fied,
Im a bit of a OC noob... ok a lot of a OC noob.
How small a step would you suggest & what limit?
Also are the timings directly linked with OC'ing memory i.e. if you OC you must relax the timings or can they stay default.
What timings would you suggest 4-4-4-13? again if its a definite I'd rather know than risk CMOS territory
Many thanks in advance

Relaxing the timings is the opposite of what you suggested. Try 6-6-6-18 if you want the ram to run faster. There comes a point though when the looser timings will negate any increase in speed. Fix your ram at it's stated requirement of 2.1-2.2v as suggested before.

Hi guys, stuck with original timings (well actually i have it set on auto)
Everything flying along great.
Thanks for advice
