Overclocking 5870...problems?

Hello fellows,

I've never overclocked anything in my puff, but last night I thought I'd attack my ATi Overdrive and slam all the sliders to the right.

From what I recall the stock clock speeds are 850/1200 and I popped them up to 900/1300.

This happened after a short while of gaming:

I've seen dotted around the forums that people have had their 5870's to numbers around the levels I set mine at.

The same thing happened at 900/1250 so I've just reverted it back to stock clocks until I actually know what I'm doing.

I'm not asking for advice to help me overclock, merely posting as I'm confused about what has gone wrong technologically.

Thanks for reading,

Try 900/1200

I'll give that a run for a while.

you're not likely to get the memory stable at that speed (and the core for that matter) without some sort of voltage adjustment.

Ah ha, diving in at the deep end I see.

Thanks for the input guys, I was just wanting to play around with it and I don't mind too much if I kill it. But I'll certainly be leaving the soldering iron that I don't own in the shops for now.

I've just downloaded MSI Afterburner and MSI Kombustor to fart around and see what's what :)

Thanks guys, I'll pootle about with this for a while and hopefully I won't end up with a paperweight!
