You could see anywhere between 5% and 20% performance gain in games
I personally found a bigger gain on overclocking my CPU than my GPU with The Division. I don't think it's very well optimised as shown by how little difference there is from medium to ultra yet the crazy hit on FPS.

What clocks does it boost to now?
If running a single card it's always worth overclocking it if you can. As long as you're happy with the temps and noise, which is usually no different on mild to moderate overclocks, why not???
Most 980Tis will happily boost to 1400 with a bit added to the core clock, what's yours boost to by default?
The division is a total GPU whore. I'm running two 980Tis in SLI at 3440x1440 and at near to max settings it manages to keep 60fps at all times, but it doesn't get that much higher. My monitor, x34 clocks to 100hz, but for this game it's not worth it. The nvidia gameworks shadows setting in particular are a huge Fps killer, ridiculous really and I think it's a very unoptimised game for how it looks vs performance.
Classic Ubisoft fare really. Might run ok in a year or so, if they can be bothered.

a 10 % increase in o.c would be fine... watch temps if you go more
I have both my ti's overclocked with 250mhz on the core and 350mhz on the memory and it makes a noticeable difference in GTA/the division/NFS. The latter two the most as 4k for me was on the edge of FPS stock and this overclock pushed it up enough to not drop below when I was in a heavy area

I think mine is 1140 normal 1290 boost and memory 1753
I use MSI afterburner to increase the core and memory clocks. Very straight forward application to use.
Don't go up in massive stages. Go in slow increments, run a benchmark, stable? If yes, go up another increment and rebench. If no, roll back to last successful overclock.
With MSI afterburner just make sure to save the configuration in case you forget what clocks you put it too lol!

You can use afterburner with any card, and any brand of card. It's a fantastic bit of software, I've used it for years. You can also control and make custom fan profiles too. It doesn't make any hardware changes, It's purely software that has to run all the time to be in effect. Just get it all how you want and set it to load with Windows start.

Do you have to load afterburner each time you want to overclock? Or does it write to the card?[/Q]
it doesn't write to the card and need MSI to run when you want to use that overclock
I have a default fan profile setup within MSI afterburner so I set it up to run the application on startup which meansI can set my day to day overclock on boot, as well as my custom fan setup.
What you will find however is that some overclocks will run better than others. GTA for me runs 300 clock, 400 mem, whereas what I posted earlier is for division and nfs.
