hey guys,

im not very clued up on GPU overclocking, and i need some help.

i want to overclock my 970 G1, i currently have power limit set to 112% (max)
core to +180 and mem to +180

now i normally see memory a lot higher then core clocks, should i overclock the memory with the core the same? or should i add say +20 mem for every +5 of the core clock

also im using msi AB, if there is anything else i should know, please let me know :)

thanks

Yea +50 each time will be fine then run a couple of benchmarks, like Firestrike & Heaven to test stability. Once you've reached your max where the driver stops working or the benchmark start playing up, back the core off a little until stable again then work on the memory. You could do the memory on it's own, same as above applies for testing the stability.

most 970's will reach 8000mhz on memory (+500 overclock) and 1500mhz on the core. Then again there is always a chance that you have gotten a really good or a bad clocker.

i have got to 1580 on the core atm, if i increase it anymore, valley stops responding, i have not added and voltage to the card tho, only applied power limit, but im going to add some voltage when i get home and try get 1600+

ok so the max my card will go to is +191 on the core with +112 power limit and +97mV.

what can i do to get my card to let me push it more? i want to get to 1600mhz on the core then i will leave it there.

i have not touched the memory clocks yet

GPU-Z says MAX core clock was 1587.2mhz
so close to 1600!

Maybe you just can't push it anymore.

Anyway, I've found Nvidia cards have a liking to memory overclocks , especially in gaming benchmarks.

With my 670 I OCed the core to +80 (or something Like that) and got 1 fps more on Sleeping dogs bench.OCed the memory (I got it to +500 or so) and I got an extra 5 fps, considering my top was around 50 FPS, that's a good 10%. Not bad eh?.
