Hi,

Ive had my PC for about a year now and have decided to overclock it slightly. Ive read quite a few posts on here and learnt quite a lot. This is what i have done thus far, locked the pci and agp bus to 66/33, lowered the HT multi to 4X and raised the HT voltage by .5, increased the VDIMM voltage to 2.70v, and increased the CPU voltage to 1.45 from 1.40v. Ive raised the HTT to 215 so far which gives me 2150mhz but id like to go a bit further. I tried it at 2150mhz at first with the HT at 5X as id heard some mobos will still work fine up to 1100mhz HT but it didn't work for me, my PC crashed a few seconds into Quake 4, so Ive set it to 4X.

Is everything Ive done OK? and is there anything else i should do?.
Is it possible to set a memory divider on an Abit AV8 mobo?, if so where would i find the setting for this?.
What mhz does Geil Value 1gb dual channel kit usually go to.

My kit

Abit Av8 939 mobo
Geil value 1gb dual channel kit
Winchester 3200+ 939, air cooler by Akasa EVO33
gigabyte 6800GT 400/1100

Thanks for any help

You need to go to the Advanced Chipset Features>Dram Configuration ther you can change your memory timings and set a divider by altering the Dram Clock to a lower value.

Exellent ill give it a try now, does everything else look ok?, i think ill just go for 2200mhz which is the same as a 3700+.

This is almost exactly what I've done. I haven't finished testing my overclock at 2200MHz yet so dont know if it's 100% stable.

I increased my VCORE to 1.45, VDIMM to 2.70, locked PCI-E at 100 and PCI at 33. My HTT is at 220. But errr.... what's an HT multi?

Hyper Transport, It runs at 1000mhz default but cant go over 1000mhz or it crashes as i found out. The multiplier for it is 5X so 200htt X5 = 1000mhz, as the htt is increased so is the HT, i had to set the HT multi to 4x to stop it from crashing. Some mobos HT can be overclocked to 1100mhz so your probably fine, but apparently the HT doesn't add any performance so its recommended to turn it down to keep it under 1000. This is what Ive read i think, i may be wrong.

OK Ive gone to 2200mhz easy enough, Ive left the ram 1:1 at the moment. So to get a divider all i do is lower the ram clock and then when i up the CPU clock the ram will follow suite?, i thought there was certain settings like 166 etc?.

Ahh cheers ill have a mess later, does anyone know what i could take my geil value to without a divider, its currently at 220mhz.

i have seen a review where geil RAM was prefectly stable at 255mhz and crashed out at 260mhz but i wouldnt take it for granted that yours is the same
