Hey guys,

Just got a new motherboard, and i tried using my old overclock set-up, which unfortunately wasn't very stable at all when testing with Orthos, obviously every MB model yields different results!

So, can anyone give me any tips on what settings to use for an ASUS P5E and E6600, alongwith the memory settings (memory in sig), for a stable 3Ghz OC on air cooling?

I'm a bit of a "noob" with overclocking, my mate helped before, but he's away for a while! Would love the help :)

EDIT.. Whoops, wrong section, please move if possible

Hi, as far as your memory goes you need to go into the bios and into the AI Tweaker menu and manually set the voltage to 2.1-2.2v and the timings to 4-4-4-12. When overclocking the fsb leave the FSB Strap to North Bridge at AUTO and select the closest ram speed to 800 as possible in the Dram Frequency drop down.

For a good read on the P5E have a look at this massive thread over at XS forums. It starts off as the P5E3 but ends up mostly being about the P5E. There is loads of good stuff in there and you can learn a lot about the board and it's settings from there. Quite a few of the guys are running clocked E6600's as well. A lot of them post their settings so others can use them.

It might be worth getting the latest bios, 601. Get it from here. It only came out a couple of days ago but seems solid enough. No problems with it here and it's certainly a lot better than 502. To get 3Ghz on a 6600 you should'nt need to touch any of the motherboard voltage options, NB, SB etc. You probably will have to give your cpu a bit extra, just keep an eye on temps. The only other thing you should need to do is increase the fsb to 333 (if i remember right the 6600 has a 9x multi?). That should give you 3Ghz easily enough.

Hi mate, thanks a lot for that informative post.

Yeah, i used to set the FSB to 333 on my old MB too.

Bit worried about the whole bios side of things, as thats the reason i had to get a new MB in the first place, my old one got corrupted and cleared itself when i was updating it, but i think the main cause was because i updated it via windows.

Always do it via the Bios utility yeah? :)
