Hey OcUK,

I'm thinking of overclocking my Q6600 2.4GHz, currently it runs at a max temp of 45c. How much GHz could I get it to before reaching a temp that wouldn't be good?

You can't give a definitive answer to that. You have to try yourself. Increase the fsb untill it becomes unstable or the temps get too high.

check the VID of your chip and report back ?
mine was a 1.3250v VID, only went to 3.4Ghz stable and 3.6GHz on bencies but wasnt stable over long periods.

Got my Q6600 running at 3.0Ghz at stock volts with minimal impact to temperatures. Max temperatures about 60-65 when running prime to check if your overclock is stable.

Mine's at 3.2 on 1.224v and it only gets to 70 degrees peak on intel burn test. Rarely see it above 55 in normal use/games

There really is a huge variation with the Q6600s
Mine is 1.325 VID, and to pass 24 hrs Prime95 blend I need a BIOS setting of 1.38v. With vdrop+vdroop about 1.30v according to CPU-Z under Prime
With the Freezer 7 Pro, it was hitting max 62C core temp with very small FFTs but with the larger ones around 58C or so. I'm not sure if 1.38v is safe long term, I guess so as some people put a lot more through than that, but always a risk with overclocking

1.38v is fine

you are pretty much safe up to 1.6v as long as you can control the temps, I have not seen a Q6600 die at these volts yet

When i was running mine. at 3.8ghz i needed 1.50625 in bios (1.512 @load), could probably have clocked it a bit more with more powerful fans or water as temps may have been the limiting factor.

yeah I sold it on MM a few months back (got a good price to! :) )

Am just messing around with an E5200 at the mo until I have enough time to start my new project

Yep, got shot of mine as well on MM, bought a q9550 to have a play around with, bit of a crazy upgrade but i fancied a new toy.
