my cpu is running @ 3.1 atm was a prebuilt overclockers system was thinking of overclocking it a bit more how easy is it overclock as i havent messed with pcs in years. mobo is a abit ip35 pro xe

download cpu-z and have a look what the vcore is set at.
a Q6600 is safe upto 1.5v so if its fairly low, boot into bios and raise it to 1.4v or even 1.44v. (dont forget more vcore = more heat)
in the bios and you should see your multiplier or cpu ratio will be 9 and your FSB (or cpu frequency) will be 345, so 345 x 9 = 3100 or 3.1ghz.
then just raise the fsb to 365.
boot into windows and download realtemp and Intel burn test. (google)
Have a look in task manager under performance tab, and notice how much free ram is listed.

load up realtemp, then load up Intel burn test.
In ibt set threads to 4 (for 4 cores) and then click on custom ram and enter an amount just below the free amount.
eg. i have 2520mb free ram. so i enter 2500 into the custom ram.
run the test for 10 passes. for now,
if it passes, go back into bios and raise the FSB again to 380, and repeat the test again. just keep raising it in 10-20mhz steps,
when it fails the test, you either raise the vcore another notch, or remove 20mhz from the fsb,

and then run ibt at final speed you get, run for 20 passes
keep an eye on temps (do not let it go over 75.c)

I have mine at 3.2Ghz, with 1.4V on the core and NB in the BIOS.

Running tests it's 1.376V on idle, and 1.36V on load.

Does this mean I could lower the core to around 1.38V? Do I leave the NB at 1.4V?

I find that north bridge voltage makes no difference at all I am stable at 3.6 ghz with it on default seems all about the vcore on q6600's mine needs 1.46 for 404x9

Asus p5q pro but had the same abit ip35 pro before and it made no difference on that either I only think it might if you use 4x sticks of ram.

i also found this on my DFI DK P45 t2rs+, i just left the NB at stock voltage.
i also just have 2 sticks of ram ;)

@gazzaa, as i said, bump the volyage upto around 1.4-1.44v.
then raise the fsb in 20mhz steps, and run the stress test between steps.
at that vcore, with a good cooler you should get to around 3.4-3.6;)

what cooler have you?

I put the vcore to 1.4 the pc just resets and goes back to default.

I am running a G0 stepping Q6600(1.325VID) at stock volts(1.325V) and every thing at stock apart from DDR2 voltage (as OCZ Repers need 2.1V).
I have a Abit IP35Pro with bolt mod on 18ZZZ bios.

Edit :Over clocked to 3.24GHz (360 x 9)
