Overclocking a reference 570 - worth it?

Hi all,

My 2nd (backup) PC has a single, reference 1.25GB Palit GTX 570 that I got quite early on in the 500-series life-cycle.

I'm just wondering if it's worth overclocking it?
I remember reading that some of the reference cards lacked decent cooling on key components (VRMs?) that could cause overclocking them to be a bit risky.
I wouldn't want a massive overclock as I wouldn't want the temps to go so high that I'd have to up the fan speed to the point where it was intrusively noisy.

So is it worth it and if so what low-medium overclock that I should aim for? (I've not really overclocked a GPU before)

Thanks.

With todays games being so demanding, a decent overclcok might only net you 1 or 2 fps. I wouldn't bother and just play with it on stock.

No harm in having a play though and seeing what it can achieve :)
